Billionaires believe themselves to be untouchable. They will realize how worthless their money is and how powerless they truly are when those they employ begin to turn on them. Their personal chefs, their cleaning ladies, their bodyguards, the ones who empty their trash, and the ones who drive them around town to fancy dinners and take them to airports where their private jets await. When these people tire of being treated like dogs and slaves; when the paychecks their wealthy benefactors dole out are no longer sufficient to cover basic necessities — food, rent, and gas. When the paychecks themselves cease to matter and something more fundamental comes to the forefront of those docile minds and the gears start to slowly turn — it will be like a great awakening.

It is the people, collectively, who truly wield the power.

The billionaire’s private army composed of individuals will no longer feel the need to bow down to one man — a mere mortal like themselves, after all — and they will assert their own authority. They will lay down their weapons and join the masses in the streets. What can the billionaire do to stop them from leaving, him standing there soft and pink in his silk pajamas?

The head chef will turn in his apron one day and say with finality: “Cook your own fuckin’ food.”

Likewise the cleaning ladies and room attendants:

“Wash your own dirty underwear.”

“Scrub your own toilet.”

Who will come to the billionaire’s aid? He’ll pay top dollar for anyone to come and deal with this problem for him. People can be bought, but only to a certain point.

What happens when money ceases to matter? Where will the loyalties fall then?

The wealth these billionaires claim to possess is fluff, a mass hallucination. It doesn’t exist except by agreement within the collective. It’s just a number displayed on a computer screen. The money cannot manifest itself in the physical and wipe the billionaire’s ass. Or hand feed him baby food one tablespoon at a time.

But what happens when we no longer agree on its relative worth or lose faith in our monetary system entirely? The billionaire’s so-called power and influence disappears in a cloud of smoky bullshit.

And then the billionaire will see it is the people who wield the power. He will be at their mercy as they come for him cowering within his walled garden and golden-chandeliered dining room.

They don’t need to eat him. We are not cannibals or baby eaters like them. The mangy dogs in the streets will see to it that he is well taken care of, just not in the manner that he had been accustomed to in the past.
